Weird Noise... Big Fear...

Recommended Posts

Mr_save

Hi there!!

i have searched on the forum already, but nothing like this.

here`s the problem...

my Mi16 xu9j4 makes noise from the head... rattling...

at any revs but as soon as i close the throttle it stops.

on the min you can hear it and increase with the revs.

im using a 5w50 oil, but i added just a kg of 0w40 because i have to change

filter and oil soon.

I`ve changed 16 valves and 16 new and original peugeot lifteners ( )

bottom ends, bearings, a piston (used but original, with new peugeot rings), new dizzy,

sparks with less than 1k miles, good pressure oil (in temperature on the min is 1.5 bars and at 3,5k is more than 4 bars).

all the parts i used are brand new genuine peugeot.

ca be a injector?

any ideas?

ps: last time i had a problem like that i`ve found a valve on the celing of the 4th piston...

...and the noise seems to come from there... :D

try to understand my fear...

Many Thanks ! Alessio

and someone in the post said...

1)Camshaft worn or follower dished.

2)Wrong valve clearance

3)Worn cam follower

4)Wear between main bearing shells and crankshaft. (only if knocking hehe)

it can be??? and is it dangerous drive in this way???

thanks!

that sound could be the injetors, they are quite loud on the mi16, and can resemble the "tapping" noise

Ha never know why everyone says the injectors are noisy. Never ever seen a noisy one! That vid definately sounds like a stuck tappet/lifter. A blowing exhaust manifold can also make a ticking, more noticeable on throttle or when the engines under load. Worn cams normally have light scoring lines on the lobes or occasionally where they sit in the cam carriers. If your cams are a uniform shiny appearance across the whole lobe then they most likely arent worn. (well not enough to tap anyway).

Sounds just like mine did with a bent valve guide.

You say you found a valve on piston, how bent was the valve?

Mine turned out to be bent enough to have ovalled the valve guide a touch. I put it back together, made a rattle which I never solved. Sold car on seemingly running fine with the rattle, and a later dismantling of the engine found the guide out of shape, hence the valve rattled slightly in it.

In my case it wasn't that loud till you got a steady 3k revs when it got a hell of a lot louder.

Thanks everybody for bringing your experience!!

Now, that time the 3/4 of the valve falls inside the cilinder... when i removed the rocker cover

i found a liftner with a crack and underneath the "cone" (try to understand... in the middle there`s the valve which is

fitted whith 2 tiny little bits...) broken in 2 parts...

The head was repaired in a professional and famous centre B) ... but since that time i know this noise, is just growing up..

now i dont remember the camshafts :( but as soon a i can i will open te rocker cover and check the status of

that...

anyway, even if the camshaft is worn, can i forget about it and go on... or is better to replace it?

also as mattmk1 said i will check the exaust, cause i replace the alternator moving the engine, so it can be

aswell and also i hope is something stupid like that, and not a head issue! :)
