Fitting a inlet manifold to my MI16 have a standard BGA gasket. Is it ok to use this on its own, or should I use gasket goo/sealant as well?

One or the other - personally, I just use RTV for all gasket faces (heads gasket excluded, obviously) and have never had an issue.

I usually fit these inlet manifold gaskets (and most of others as well) lightly coated with sealant … just apply a tiny bit on the gasket and rub it in so that it gets wet/tacky , rub until the gasket changes color from say light gray (that's if it's gray) to dark gray all around . Theres also special type of sealant for this purpose for pre coating , for use together with solid or flexible gaskets .. but any good RTV sealant will do just fine me thinks

I smear a thin layer of sealant on every gasket as Damir said, but the key is moderation. I know quite a few engines that have been killed after silicone sealant clogged the oilways.
