Help With S16 Conversion

Recommended Posts

Guest flatout

i have a s16 engine and have already put it in one of my 205 gti's but seem to have a problem with the space between the inlet and the radiator thay are touching and i have heard that you can tilt the engine but i dont want to do that realy is there any other options . would a mi16 or gti-6 inlet manifold fit the s16 engine. i currently have a 205 diesel radiator in aswell i dont think thats helping as its thicker than the origional . any ideas i have run a search but i had no luck in finding any info

Simplest (and most common) route here is to re-angle the rad. It's all covered in here in the conversion threads and you ought to try a search.

You need to grind down the rad cowling which will move it away from the inlet 10-15mm. This is still not a lot of clearance between the plenum and rad, but it is enough.

The next option after this is lowering the rad, which is quite common and is not particularly difficult.

Again, lowering the rad can be found by searching.

Check in the group buy sections for the lowering brackets from Tom Fenton. Decently made and they lower and angle the rad. you'll need an aftermarket fan...which funnily enough I have for sale :(

There pictures in Tom's thread showing mine with loads of clearance between the inlet and the rad.

Must be the rad being the TD one as with the std GTi spec one the manifold clear's with ease

ok i have now got a radiator of a mi16 205 gti and i got the oil cooler modual with it and both look brand new for £80 not bad  .

but now the slam panel wont sit right the drivers side sticks out .has any one else had the same problem . the only way round it i think is to chop it and weld it up . the inlet manifold is stoping it by about 5mm but apart from that everything seems to be ok bonnet shuts without slam panel and radiator fits perfecto . i will upload pics soon on the conversion .
