Will 8 Inches Be Enough

Recommended Posts

The standard cooling fan on the gti is around 10 inches with many people running twin fans, as iv lowered and angled my radiator i can no longer fit the standard fans and cant fit anything bigger than an 8 inch fan (to the front of the rad for clearance) Will this be enough or should i play it safe and buy 2?

I think 2 standard fans is a bit over kill, but a single 8 not quite enough.....

how often does your fan actually come on? if you fit it so its sucking the air through("puller") i think it should be fine.

The fan`s on a manual switch at the mo, and i flick it on when it reaches half way, but it only takes a few secconds for it to go back down to the first bar,

I want to fit the fan between the rad and the bumper so it will have to be set up to push,

If its of any use its an ally rad..

Definately can't get that 9" curved blade on in there?

We use one on the buggy and it shifts some serious air, more than the 12" straight on the other side...

Just fit one and see how it goes. You can always fit the second later. I run one cheap and nasty 10" fan on my track car and it's more than enough to cool 220hp on a hot day in Australia.

A decent modern fan should be more efficient than the standard fan, so it shouldn't matter too much if it's a bit smaller.

I find my ally rad keeps the car quite a bit cooler than a copper core, so I reckon you will be fine.

I have the resistor by-passed on mine so the full speed kicks in at the low-speed temp - it never gets far on the guage regardless how I am driving.

Thanks for all the replies you pretty much backed up my thoughs, iv notticed that the 7inch fan has the same 541CFM rating as the 8 inch fan so im going to go for one of those and if needed a seccond later.

Cheers

Paul

It's not the size that matters, it's the performance it gives. (Sorry couldn't resist when i saw the topic.)

A smaller fan giving the same cfm will generate a higher pitch noise, but i'm guessing that won't be a problem.
