More Gear Box Questions

hi in the type of racing i do i only get in to first second and third so i was wondering if some one could give me the ratios for them three gears and final drive for a 1.6 be1 and a 1.6 be3 gearbox so i can look at the difference (i should realy get a haynes manual but you guys are easier to understand :lol::) )

The gear ratios are the same for the Be1 or BE3 unless you have one of the very rare close ratio boxes but even then there isn't a great deal of difference.

 

The Haynes 205 service & repair manual can be downloaded from m@tt's signature & all the ratios have been listed before on this forum so a search should bring up some results.

one quick question do all them boxes listed fit a 1.6 gti or not ?

Any gearbox from an XU engined car (Pug or Citroen, petrol or diesel) should fit straight into a 205 GTI but you might need to change one of the selector arms for it to work.

hi just alitle brain picker ive washed the gear box of and near the diff housing theres a sticker/tag and on it has 2 BN29 and i was just wondering if any one could tell me what box its is

Only way to check the box might be by reading the numbers stamped on the diff :lol:

That'll only tell you the final drive ratio & is in no way any indication of the rest of the gearbox.

 

Only sure fire way is to either get a known gearbox or strip it to count the teeth on the gears & final drive as stamped on the diff.
