Numbers Stamped On Head

I have found these numbers stamped on the lug in front of the headbolt at no1 cylinder and have not seen heads stamped here before. It says 7944 then underneath 31.5. Supposedly this had modified head, cam and valves (all Mc. D type prob?) but I'm interested if these numbers mean anything to anybody.

31.5 I would assume is the cylinder head chamber volume, apart from that no idea I'm afraid.
