White Smoke

Driving home from work yesterday and there was a rather scary puff of white smoke coming out of the back, I'd been driving the car hard for about 20 minutes, lots of 2nd & 3rd gear corners when I noticed a trickle of smoke then a fairly big cloud, I eased off straight away and the smoke cleared as quickly as it arrived. What would this indicate? The engine is still feeling as strong as it did before this and is very strong in general, it was rebuilt 10K ago and has had regular, quality oil changes.

I could do without this as the Passat has just developed it's own suspension fault!
