Gearbox Identification?

hi im fairly new to 205 gtis and this being the first time ive had the engine out of my 1.6 8v gti for a rebuild and was just wondering how to identify the gearboxes

Try a search?

 

Be1; reverse next to first with a gate / lift up collar.

 

Be3; Reverse behind fifth.

 

Its also usually marked on the casing near the diff housing either BE1 or BE3.

thanks for that just that its a fairly oily old engine and box and i couldnt find any markings on it ill clean it off properly and try agen
