Brake Pad Warning Light Is On...

Recommended Posts

hi all, went to change the front pads today because the little orange light has been up on the dash for a while...

took the drivers side front wheel off, the pads look almost new and are hardley worn atall, however i did notice a red wire which was loose in the wheel arch, looks the right length to be going to the caliper or something, tho i have no idea where its supposed to be going.. my guess its for the brake pad wear sensor thing.. does anyone know where its supposed to go? thanks

One of the pads should have a wire fitted into it and that should plug into a wire dangling around the brake hose area. Some people don't fit the wire to the pad though. Its designed so that when the pad wears a little stud at the pad end of the wire connects with the brake disc, making a circuit and bringing the light on. Check both sides but if your light is on and the pads aren't worn or the wire isn't even fitted then that dangling cable is earthing somewhere.

Mine is doing the same when I accelerate hard so the wire must be rubbing or touching the shell somwhere for me.
