Odometer Doesn't Work

Recommended Posts

My odometer appears to be non-functioning. I have a spare set of GTI clocks which appears to be slightly damaged (some of the warning lights never light, although I've replaced the bulbs with known good bulbs), and I was wondering...if the odometer on my spare set of clocks works, how easy is it to swap it over with my non-working odometer? Can someone give me a walk thru, if swapping the odometers is possible? Everything else on my main set of clocks works. The non-working odometer is really bugging me.

The clocks are a breeze to change imho, if you take the top half of the dash off which is just the grey/black bit sitting around the clocks and goes just above the center console will reveal the clocks clearly, few screws hold them in, should be 5 conectors on the top of the clocks, diff sizes so wont get mixed up, 1 on the back of the clocks too, only tricky bit is the speedo drive on the clock, a slight twist and gentle tug should pop it out. then swap over and fit back in reverse order.

Ian, I think u misunderstood. I want to swap parts of the clocks around. The spare clock I have seems to be fubar'd. Some of the lights never light up, although I've swapped them with known working bulbs. But the odometer part of the spare set works. I would like to swap that part (and only that part) into my main set of clocks. The main set of clocks works perfectly, other than the odometer.

I'm sure there are people on the forum who've swapped their dials with different coloured ones, so someone here should be able to advise me.

Ok, I've removed the clocks from the dash, but how do I separate the plastic backing with the bulbs on it from the black part of the housing? I see some plastic tabs around the sides of the housing. Do i just prise these back, or are there screws I need to remove first?

I hate the prospect of having to tug at Peugeot plastic :(

Well, managed to swap over the clocks. First, the tabs have to be released. Once the clear plastic is off, several 5mm bolts are revealed. I loosened the two retaining the speedo and loosened the two 7mm bolts at the back of the speedo. Then I pushed the speedo from the back thru the front of the housing. Refitting was the reversal of removal. I'll test it to see if all works well in the morning.

Cheers.

care if i use this opportunity to seek help with a similar problem?

my trip meter is running, but can't be reset (as on many cars i've seen).

when pushed, the trigger goes in but feels wobbly and has no effect.

looking at humanz' pictures - what do i need to fix or replace here?

it's a ph2 Veglia unit, LHD and metric, if this does matter.
