Securing The Black Cover On The Afm

Recommended Posts

humanz

The black plastic cover on my AFM is too loose, and the angle it's been turned to accomodate a K&N cone filter, it's liable to fall off! I had a spare AFM with another cover and tried that cover, but with no luck. Other than a cable tie, what can I use to secure the cover? I was thinking of some adhesive sealant.....would that be a problem?

If you mean RTV, silicon type sealant, a lot of us have had to use it to hold this same AFM cover on. It's OK to use.

Silicoln sealant for cars and bathrooms releases vinegar as it sets which can damage the electrical components; use silicoln sealant for electrical items.

I used a cheap gum based contact glue as it was all I had

Pritt Stick or Duct Tape... Will stick anything together with that combo!

On a serious note, one of the AFM's I got has got RTV on it and still comes off (whoever did it before did a bad job!)

Electronics shops will silicone sealant that is electronics safe. It comes in tubes like big toothpaste tubes, seems to work well and costs around £5 in the UK.
