Xu10 Alternator Mounting

Recommended Posts

My alternator doesn't seem to be lining up and i'm wondering whats causing it. Options are:

1. The bottom pulley

2. the alternator bracket

Here's a picture showing it not lining up perfectly, the belt is a standard 205 GTi belt.

Here's a picture of the chopped up mount:

Should the bottom pulley really be that close to the cam cover? It's either the pulley which needs spacing out or the alternator needs shifting in, but I can't see how that can happen.

Any thoughts anyone?

The bottom pulley does run bloody close.

are you sure its the right alternator? I used the 8v one and there wasn't a bolt that long on the one I fitted to an iron block 205 last year.

shoudlnt be the alternator bracket as it has a roll pin to locate it on the block

Are you saying my bottom pulley looks to be running close or they do in general? I spoke to Miles and he says there's no difference between alternators. Like you said, the roll pin means you can't get the mount positioned wrong.

The bolt does look to be right, it holds it perfectly and doesn't stick out the ends too much.

It looks to me like the bottom pulley is to blame, but i can't see how when as far as i was aware theres no spacers or anything to push it out.

I'm stumped on this and really don't want belts snapping because of dodgy alignment. Any other thoughts appreciated!
