Temerature Warning Light....

Recommended Posts

MaD4RaNGeRs

Hello everyone :)

I bought my first GTi last week and it runs great! I'm really enjoying it.

However there is a niggling problem thats worrying me.....the temperature warning light flashes on when you go round a corner. For example going round a roundabout at say 20mph causes it to stay on and goes back of when you turn off on to straight road. The reading on the temperature gauge stays the same (about 1/3 way up when warmed up) so it's not actually overheating. The Stop light also comes on at the same time as well.

I don't really want to drive it like this incase it is something serious.

It's a 1991 205 GTi 1.6

Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated ;)

Cheers,

Matt

Have you checked the connectors to the coolant level sensor? Take them off give them a clean and put it back on.

I've not checked that no, where abouts is it? I will check it tomorrow. I've only had the car a week...and I need a haynes manual for it. :)

From what I have read on these forums...there is a seperate warning light for the coolant level? The light thats coming on is the red one on the temperature gauge.

^^ what he said. although mine has gone altogether now and stays on permanently. I just make sure I check the levels often until I see a cheap one ebay (....and I have some money!).

Ah, that's different. The coolant temp sensor is down under the dissi (as apposed to inside or at the bottom of the expansion tank for the level sensor). Could just be dodgy electrics in the dash or interference from your HT leads.

Ok, thanks.

I'll have a good look at the sensor tomorrow see what condition the wires connecting it are in.

Also I don't know if this is connected with the fault but the oil temperature and pressure gauges don't seem to work....can anyone tell me where abouts the sensors for these are located? So i can check them while i'm at it. :)

I *think* pressure sensor is under the inlet manifold, temp down on sump. never had to mess with them myself so get confirmation of that!

Yea oil pressure sensor is on the front left hand side of the engine block under the inlet manifold.

Oil temp sender is in the sump at the back.

So the coolant warning light is coming on when it feels like it, and all the other gauges are not working?

Have a search on that topic buddy as its been covered lots of times, with better info than I can type here in 2 min.
