I've took mine off and i can see the piece of pie slot even tho i took it off and i hadn't long picked the missus up from work so not a cold engine(probably was cold the time it took to get off tho)

when engine is cold it should be open......when engine is fully up to temp should be closed.....

you can check them by giving them some straight voltage from battery

or when engine is defo defo up to running temp .....and with engine running......crimp the hose leading off it to air intake and if tick over drops then will be faulty

If you soak the whole thing overnight in something like meths or brake cleaner and then move the disc inside back and forth with a bit of wire then you can often get a faulty SAD working again. Repeat a few times and you can get it almost as good as new.

electrics? its a simple valve with a bi-metallic strip and small heating element, so yes thousands of these have been subjected to this and worked absolutely fine afterwards B)

I put mine in the Dishwasher!

Then again, I put loads of stuff in the dishwasher when Abby is out, even had a cylinder head in there before.

Dont tell her though!

I've used the dishwasher many times for car and bike parts, always when the wife is out. I always put it through a cycle afterwards to clean it out. She caught me out once when it was full of bits from my bike. She didn't get too upset.
