Pictures Of Dismantling A Solex 32-34 Z2 Carb From Tu3s 1.4 (xs/sr)

Hi guys,

A mate of mine just bought a '93 SR, and left it with me cos it was running crap, turns out it was the dizzy cap, but as i have the car all week, i took the opportunity to strip and rebuild the carb, and took some pics while i was at it, seeing as theres very little resource i could find on this carb picture-wise and i'd never done it before.

Its not exactly a step-by-step guide, but someone might find these useful!:

(i'd post them here but there were too many pics to post at once)

hey man, great seeing this, i have also been trying to compile lots of info on this carb, (http://forum.205gtidrivers.com/index.php?showtopic=100931)

the throttle spindle looks so confusing , i hope i get mine back together ok, in my rebuild kit i do not have a spare black plastic diagrham , the one to the upper left on this pic

that is held with the 4 screws and spring.

Going to get mine sorted soon anyway, any idea on the correct set up procedure on these ?

Really the only thing that needs setting up once its back together is the idle setting, ive seen various different methods of doing it "by eye" as it were, the following is what i used today.

Ideally you need a CO meter like a garage uses to set it up perfectly, but you can get it going by screwing the idle screw (on the side of the bottom plate, hidden behind the choke cam on that pic) all the way in, then back it out several turns (the one here was originaly 7 turns out when i took it off, so i wound it back out to there). With the engine running and warmed up turn the screw inwards until it starts to run roughly then back it off until it just runs smooth again, then wind it out the other way, counting the number of turns until it runs roughly again. wind the screw back in half this number of turns so its in the middle of the good running band and this should get you a reasonable idle. It'll most likely need some fine tuning afterwards, at least to pass emissions, so its worth dropping it into a garage or finding someone you can borrow a CO meter off of.

You can also adjust the idle speed if needed using the little screw that the throttle comes to rest on.

I had to help rebuild a carb in a hotel room at 3am, was running rough all day in a car I was navigating in so thought overnight was the best time to try and fix it. It worked. (we then rolled the 3 selectiffs later.
