Gti Running Problem Arghhhh

Recommended Posts

Hi this is the first time using the forum so bear with me!!

After a long drive i had a heater hose blow on my car (205 1.9 gti hreg) which i thought nothing of, fairly sure though that the car did not get too hot just a tad warm.(as soon as warning lights came on the engine was stopped staight away!!)

I had to potch the hose at the time as i have no replacement so the hose is just blanked of for now. Anyway the next morning i drove the car she was missfiring and splutering, mainly when you floor the throttle but seems to clear when she gets going, untill she warms up when she drives as normal!

I feared the worst and did a hydrocarbon test and compression test which was okay so that rules out a head gasket i hope?

I have put new HT leads, spark plugs, dizzy cap and recently a second hand afm.

When i puled the plugs out for the compression test though the plugs were coaked up with black soot and so was the exhuast which indicates overfuelling?

I had been told that if the engine overheats that the liners can expand and not contract to original size but i thought this was b@#€ks?!

At the moment i am stumped and rapidly losing hair and hope  any help would be much appreciated.

You know sumet Im having a very similar problem at the mo......car misfires and somtimes conks out when cold (on wet days mainly) and struggles to start again..... but after 5-10 mins of running is absolutely fine

So far I've Changed coil, ign amp, connections, plugs, leads dizzy cap, rotor arm and still have problem

I to have sooty plugs I discovered when I changed them???? Could this be the problem? Overfueling/to rich for starting
