looking good, As I can;t see if it's been done it's worth welding the steering coloum bracket to the cage brace bar, This really does help allot

Work come to around 2k, for all the prep work and respray. I guess it depends who you can find to do the work. The guy who did mine is a sort of one man band who loves 205 and who only really works to fund his rallying habit :(

Interesting, the bar currently just passes through the steering column bracket. I take it you weld it where it passes through either side?

Thanks guys

 

rocker cover was powder coated using a black crackle. It was recommended by my powdercoaters as when they cleaned it up they said there was a few imperfections and the crackle will cover it whilst still lookin nice. Im very happy with it.

 

Head gasket was from demon tweeks bout £100. Thought i would get one as im using high comp pistons and possibly nitrous.

Dropped the engine and gearbox in, had to remove the sump as it seem a GTI-6 sump doesnt work with a lower strut brace.

Andy, do you have the right bolts for the GTi6 Sump? I've got the sump/baffle and oil pump but I've no idea what bolts to use!

 

Car is looking awesome, 2 bodied Mis in the area :D

Just use the normal M7 MI sump bolts as GTI6 uses different. If your not using the spacer you may have to cut some down that dont have the ends exposed in the block.

 

Since i thought ive got the lower strut brace i may as well use. Also looking at the gti-6 sump i decided the extra wings looked crap. So i attacked it with a grinder think it looks alot better. Also drilled out the oil temp sensor from M14 to M16 as i had an M16 one about.

I thought it would be nice putting all clean bits back together.

I've the whole PeterT surge solution, extended pickup welded to an oil pump, gti6 sump, gti6 spacer plate but when I had the Mi sump off I was too scared to touch the oil pump and then was baffled by the talk of widening bolt holes and using other bolts in the fear of damaging the block!

Normal m7 will be fine. The problem is you cant retap m7 to m8 as used on the gti6 as the threads are to close and you will end up just making the threads weak.

 

Sump is the easy bit really. To change the oil pump you will need to remove cam belt, crank pulley etc to get the chain off. Then obvious you will need to re- time the engine. Suppose if you keep the normal pump chain and pulley you could do the spring in situ
