Driveshaft Lengths

I'm pretty certain I've read somewhere recently that the reason for the intermediate bearing on the o/s shaft is to effectively make the two shafts equal length? Now, if this is so, I can take some good shafts which I have spare, take them apart and make two shafts that I do need, I have a 1.6 o/s shaft with the metal sleeve retainer, onto which I would fit the ns gearbox end metal sleeve inner c/v for my TU, and then fit the ns 1.6 shaft I have into the intermediate part of the os shaft.

 

Can anyone confirm if these shafts are equal length?
