as this always rusts is there a stainless replacement? or is there a better way of doing it?

these tend to last bloody years if you buy an original one from Peugeot, and they dont cost too much (less than ebay often enough....) so I don't bother buying anything else.

I always spray them with something like plastikote before I install mine. How about powder coating?

I used some thick plumbing pipe something like 5mm thick walls and tolerant to high temp. Got the right diameter and its been on there for 3 years and no sign of deterioration and its plastic so wont rust.

As Josh said!

 

They rust from the outside inward due to road salt etc., so paint the thing before you install it and check occasionally when you are checking for rust on the chassis leg and it will last nigh-on forever.

There is something wrong with your coolant mixture then. Antifreeze has corrosion inhibitors in it to stop this. If the water pipe has rusted through from the inside then I dread to think the damage that has been done to the head, block and other odds and ends which are in much more reactive alloys.
