Maniblow Front Gasket - - Phut Phut Phut

Recommended Posts

kyepan

Hallo there,

Quick question, the gasket on my maniflow was blowing, so i got another one from dave at maniflow, this one is still slightly too small to fit over the flange so i cut it at the bottom, and stuffed the gap full of exhaust paste..... and once again it's blowing.

So, is there another gasket that will fit without being cut or butchered.

J

Don't use gasket J; use Loctite 5920. No need for a gasket at all, just smear this orange goo on and fire it up. The goo expands and hey presto, Sealiflow! :)

You can even buy it at Halfrauds.

Whenever I've used the Loctite, it sounds sweet and sealed. Everything else has blown.

The 4-2-1 is a two-piece manifold (2 outer + 2inner) of mild steel I guess, and so it is possible when it's pulled up to the head that it's not entirely square. This is why the paste is so good, as it expands and seals brilliantly.

I started using this after a recommendation from Peter Taylor, and wouldn't personally do it any other way.

Is he not talking about the joint to the centre section?

Oh s*it, yes. And I had exactly the same problem.

Sorry for the rant (or even advice above if useful), but I eventually got a motorfactors to dig out several from a box and let me test fit. And yes, it ended up being a Mondeo item.

Sorry for ruining your thread J. You can roundhouse me at the curry meet perhaps.

I think the answer's in my build thread somewhere, complete with part number.

are you guys saying that you can use that loctite stuff between the head an manifold on standard systems too? because i think my manifold is slightly bent from two lots of welding i've done on it, would that loctite replace the gasket or go in aswell as it?

I've always used it instead of a conventional gasket, but if the manifold is significantly warped then I don't know how the sealant will hold up - not very well I suspect, and you'd probably be better seeing if you can find an engineering place to skim the mating face flat again as a long-term fix.

Weak excuse Justin.

I did say earlier I think 'no gasket', just the Loctite 5920. But that's for a standard fitting. As Anthony said, it's a replacement for a gasket, not a repair item.

We are talking about the joint from mani - center pipe?

If so the standard 205 metal gasket goes there?
