Mot Time Again

Recommended Posts

pj838

Its the mooost wonderful time of the year!

MOT is imminent and just wanted to check a couple of minor points are OK. Before I start panicking and tearing the dashboard out or something ;)

Are these fails..?

When I switch the headlights to full beam, full beam comes on however when I let go the stalk does not lock in position and full beam goes off

When the headlights are on, the small light to indicate this in the dash does not come on (bulb out I reckon)

Tread on both front tyres is 3-4mm, advisory?

Patch of rust on sill, not a critical area, right?

Thats all I've spotted, gonna give it a wash and clean the interior tomorrow morning. Fingers crossed..

Paul.

Full beam I think needs to be able to latch into operation, new stalk required I think.

Telltale for full beam on the dash I don't think is tested.

3-4mm tread is legal, probably not even an advisory.

Patch of rust on sill depends how bad, if you can prod your finger through it then it will need some work!

I would imagine the tell-tale not lighting is a symptom of the knackered stalk

As Tom said rust patck is only a problem if it's holed (or gets holed when the tester knocks on it with his "toffee hammer" It may show as an advisory, though which may not be desirable when you come to re-sell - A dollop of paint or underseal may prevent this

Bit fiddly I'd have thought and you won't know what's knackered till it's apart! Did the main beam work properly with the old one? If so I'd refit that for mot, the indicator cancelling doesn't affect the test

Managed to repair the indicator, the small plastic pin on the tab lever had snapped off. Glued back on til I get another good one

Car has passed MOT :) he remembered it from last year and said he took some extra time getting the emissions to pass, which was nice of him. Gave him a wry smile when he asked me about the (lack of) cat, but its a 92 plate anyway so legally its ok.. all round I'm very pleased went and took some snapshots down on the beach :D

Thanks for the help
