Standard Ignition System Or S16?

Recommended Posts

chris-gti

I have a bit of a query, I have the S16 loom and ECU for the conversion i'm doing, however i'm pretty sure the ECU isn't unlocked and i don't have the keypad or code.

What i'm wondering is if its worth putting the standard ignition system off the GTI and the distributer onto it and making the loom for the s16 OR get the s16 ECU unlocked. I also have a 1.9 bx 8v for spares, would this ecu be better than the 1.6?

I'm sure i'd be better off trying to get the S16 ecu done but i'm not sure where and how much it'll cost.

S16 ecu every time, so much nicer to drive and work on.

It may be an earlier ECU that doesn't use a keypad.

IF the ecu is locked, I'd get it unlocked/source a replacement.

One's an 8v, and one's a 16v, 2 very different engines. I'll let you do the math.

excellent, i didn't realise that some weren't locked! I'll bung it together and see if it works.
