40's will definately be to small, go for some 45's or 50's

Yes 40s is too small. Even with max jetting etc i think there going to be very close to there limit.

I ran 40s on my old 1.3 Nova !

Go with bike carbs, cheaper and easier to set up.

Yeah but there's 4 of them not 2 :P so instead of having 2 x 40mm =80 you have 4 x 38mm = 152 ;)

45 DCOE Webber or Dellorto will do the job just fine.

You may have to change jetting and choke sizes to suit the engine.

most good rolling road/tuners will be able to guide you on this.

You can do with 40mm webers. Youll be very close to, if not at their limit when pushing your engine fully, but it will work. Youll maybe only be going at 80% of the engines maximum power above 7000 rpm. But then again, how often do you actually need the last rpm above 7000?

45 is a better option, becouse with 40's you will end up with maximum size of venturis 34mm, which is too small on a Mi16 engine. Tehnicaly you could use 36mm venturis but it is not advised because of the air speed beeing slower.

36mm venturis is okay for the 40's. Its not as good as 45's, but you can use it.

just use throttle bodies

You need to sort the spec of the rest of the engine before choosing them, no use bolting on a set of touring car sized quad 52's on a standard set of cams and pistons...
