French Wiring Or Is It Just Me?

Just tested my stripped down loom for the inside. Im afraid i have some problems!! As soon as i connect the battery all the headlight lights on the dash come on and if i turn the lights on the ones on the dash go off. My indicators are the biggest problem. The lights at the front seem all ok but the back left light is mental. All sorts of light flash when the indicator is on.

 

Can anyone tell me what colour wires go into the wee varable resistor thing under the steering wheel?

 

Does anyone know what the thick blue wire around the left hand rear light is?

 

Could someone please tell me what wires are connected to their brake pedal sensor which i presume activates the brake lights

Thick blue wire at the back does nothing iirc; can't answer the rest though
