Osf Indicator Oddness

Recommended Posts

Bonzai

the osf indicator isnt working. side repeater and rear are fine.

ive checked the bulb, its fine, swapped it anyway but still nothing.

continuity checked the lamp holder, both connections fine.

read voltage across the plug pins whilst indicating. got a peak reading of roughly 6volts but its hard to be accurate as the indicators are doing doubletime, theres no oppertunity to get a good read on the multimeter. is that enough or should it be more?

Where do i need to start looking for a problem?

Many thanks, Ben

can't remember what the indicator bulb holder is like, but if its the type that have a spring contact at the back (for the centre contact) try gently bending it forward to ensure you are getting a good contact with the bulb. Also give the holder and bulb contacts a clean up again to ensure contact is good.

If that fails try reading the voltage on the other side to see if it roughly the same.

Good luck

Roddie

thanks for your suggestion. I just tried bending the contact and cleaning up the connectors but still no joy. Embarrasingly i couldnt get the bulb holder out from the other side to compare and i dont want to break it. I will try again on the weekend when i dismantle the front end a bit :)

It will be either a duff connection in the plug from the loom to the bulb holder, or a duff earth. Those plastic multiplugs are utterly sh1te and even when cleaned up as best you can don't often work.

Thought I'd post here as its along the same sort of lines.

205 1.6 Gti ph 1.5 1990 (Orange Indicators)

O/S/R Indicator worked when it feelt like it until yesterday when it went off completely so I spent 3 hours doing the following:-

Cleaning Earth points inside the N/S/R 1/4 panel,

Cleaning Light clusters connectors,

Replacing the connectors as neccesary along with trying new bulbs.

But the indicator still wont come on I tried a multimeter across the bulb holder ie inner terminal and flat outter part of the holder which gave a jumpy ready which I expected.

Any idea's or possible solutions would be a help

Cheers in advance

I had this on my car but on the other side

there is an earthing point next to the passengers side headlight. basically 2 yellow multi plugs that appear to plug into the chassis basically.

check the condition of these. that was the problem on mine.

Try replacing the hazard warning light switch if you have a spare handy, as that can cause issues with the indicators.

pop the metal bits out of the connectors and clean them up.

to get new bulb holders buy 2 new indicators from ECP. £5 each tho.
