Throttle Body Mods

Recommended Posts

DRTDVL

Hi,

I know my friends running the misty mivec (1.6 high reving thing) get good gains from oversizing the throttle body and smoothing out the butterfly.

Standard throttle is on the right.

Would something like this be benifical to the mi16 throttle body?

How can it be a Group A decat, surely a decat is a decat is a decat?

On the 306 there are two types of decat

group n which is a single tube item, much like a standerd 205 gti downpipe with a divider in it

group a is a twin tube affair, these are very hard to get hold of either new or 2nd hand.

both are shown on the peugeot boutique website

I enthusiastically did this mod on the 1.75" SU carb on my first ever car, an MG Metro ;) after reading David Vizards' "Tuning the A-Series" guide and figuring it was one of the few things I could do for free.

Obviously coupled with zero other modification on a 1275cc 4-potter, it made bugger all difference. But if you're at the other end of the scale and after every last oodle of flow I guess it's an easy mod to do. But I wouldn't bother on a standard engine unless you're just bored one Sunday!

Dave Walker did an article a few years back on this but with carbs. There was absolutely no gains at all on the flowbench to the point that he even took the butterfly and spindle out completely and still gained nothing!!

Wasn't the old Mi trick to add a VAG VR6 throttle body instead for better flow, or did that prove to be another cyberspace myth?!

ive got the VAG throttle body on mine, I don't think they come from the vr6 though. But seems to go straight on, throttle cable is a bit tricky to fit.

I can't see the point in tb mods if still using an AFM, not sure on frontal area but would be the first thing to ditch. Seems like a lot of effort for no gain :P

Fit ITBs or force the air in
