Interesting Wiring

Hello Everyone.. There is a interesting wiring between alternator and coil you can see on the picture.. When you cut it the charge lamp is lighting.. Do you know what is it? (1990 1.6 gti)

It's the alternator excitor wire. As you've seen, it illuminates the dash warning light when the alternator is faulty and not charging (or in this case, the wire is faulty/disconnected). It also needs to be present for the alternator to charge properly. Without it, the alternator will not self-excite, and will only provide charge once the engine is revved beyong someting like 3000 or 4000 rpm.

Is the connection from coil side true. If it is the right i will buy a suitable cable and plug for it. But i am not sure it is correct.

Like Steve said, its the wire for the alternator excitor wire.

 

It looks like the original one from the brown multiplug by the gearbox has either broken off or been lost in the engine bay & a previous owner has done a temporary fix because it isn't meant to be like that
