Ashley 2 1/4" System For 309

Recommended Posts

edbar

Looking at exhaust options for the 309 at the moment will be put on my 1.9 8v running 45's, newman 300 degree cam, 11.5-1 comp, lightened and balanced etc. Just wondered if they are o.k? Was thinking of getting one for the short term and then getting longmans manifold and des system later when funds have recovered from the initial build. Or am i wasting my time? Any info appreciated. Cheers Edd.

same as ^^

Noisy - on mine, now after 3 years too noisy, will have to replace it if I want to do trackdays or I'll fail the noise test

you could do but I'd stick with a std system, they flow well. Save you're money for something good. personally I wouldn't bother with one. I have a std 309 system if you're interested. Genuine back box and the front I'm not sure about but has got the proper split down the middle. Both came off my old road rally car and will pass noise ok,

Had one on my old mg metro

was very loud,too loud infact

couldnt drive far without getting a headache

fuel consumption was awful aswell

swapped to a full janspeed system

ditchd the ear plugs

got better mpg

and more low down torque

id advise to avoid it!

Very very noisy! Got that system on the rally car and your ears do ring after a long drive, although it passes noise test (96dB at 0.5m).

Surely for noise regs i can simply bolt on another backbox for trackdays, so in affect have 3 silencers in total. Was thinking about using a jetex box with an exhaust clamp?

?

what are you going to do with that have it hanging off a towbar? There's not much room for an extra silencer. The std exhausts sound raspy once they've had a bit of use. Once you've done about 20 events with a std system they're close to the noise limit for road rallies, all the heat burns the wadding away

Not going to be doing road rallies in it anyway. sandy recommended a 2 1/4" system with the cam i am running and was acting off his advice. Don't care about it being loud, not what im looking for i just dont want to choke my engine.
