Howto: 406 Brembo 4pot On 1,9hubs?

Recommended Posts

Petert: I dont know the brand "endless" but Ferodo make some really good pads for racing: DS2500 and DS3000 series. I have no intention of using anything less with he brembos! :-)

Endless are in a different league altogether. To give you an idea, DS2500 costs approx. AUS$125, DS3000 $180, Endless N20J $400.

I know a few guys that have race cars here in nz and they all swear by endless...

On of the guys competes in the nz targa towards the pointy end of the field and has tried most pads, mintex, ferodo, and i couple others and he said that the mintex where too soft and wore to quick, the ferodo where too hard and wore the discs to quickly... The endless have had the perfect balance...

He races a 206 gti 180

I think the endless pads when i was looking for the 306 where going to be around $700 NZD for a full set for the car... ($700 NZD = roughly 350 euros)

Petert: Hmmm I had to pay 400 AUD$ for my DS2500 last time...? I must be paying to much :-)

Is there a test of brakepads somewhere - would be nice to see how they all compare. Personally I found the Ferodo´s to be a giant leap compared to brembos, mintex, red stuff, ect....

lybker> sorry, still don't get it which part of the hub would they touch.

i guess i'll just have to take the hubs, discs and calipers together and see what's going on :).

p.s. the pair of holes for the Brembo's to bolt to will have to be threaded for the bolts.

p.s.2. Pagid has some proper race pads too, such as RS15 Grey.

btw, can you do some quick calcs based on 305x28 discs with 16.7mm offset

and also if the calipers had 130 mm distance between the mounting bolts?

thanks.

Sorry ' I suck at drawing in paint - must be to complex for me ;-) I dont have any time now, but will make a detailed cad drawing including mockup of hub and discs - to get a clearer picture later.

but I hope you get the idea.

Not sure what you would like me to paint - please clarify

Are you going to model the hub!? That's a bit ambitious. If you do, could you send me the file? It would be very handy to mock up my wishbones. I'll trade you for a model of a 309 wishbone if you like. :)

they come on 2.0 petrols too, not sure about lesser models.

206 GTI180 shares the same disc too.

OK here is my solution:

First I choose the ford focus RS discs (324x28mm) to get enough offset on the brembo´s so I dont have to move them up/down

then I fitted a 17mm spacer directly to the hub, to get the right offset on the calibers:

hub_spacer.JPG

After increasing the inner diameter for the centric part of the ford discs to 65mm I fitted them on top of the spacers.

Then I made M14 threading in the 2 holes on the calibers - a bit of a compromise, but best way I found for it to work:

Then the bracket got real simple and no more R and L side:

bracket_final.jpg

so this is the end result :-)

front_discs.JPG

and with wheels:

and as a small sideproject choose to fit ventilated discs to the rear + bigger bendix calibers:

rear_vented.JPG

....The project included more compromises then I first anticipated, but in the end, I believe it worked out fine :-)

thanks to cybernck for ideas and suggestions :).

p.s. aren't those discs actually 324x28?
