Howto: 406 Brembo 4pot On 1,9hubs?

Recommended Posts

lybker

Hi

I want to fit the brembo 4 pots of the 406 coupe on my 205. I know its a perfekt fit if I use the 283x26mm discs of the 307. However I want to fit the 305mm original brembo discs.

Any ideas?

:-)

Offset of the hubs is different, You must use 283x26mm discs as You have already pointed out. You can however buy aftermarket discs with adjustable center hub offset. 305mm discs will only fit 405 as is shares same offset with 406.

Cheers

not a problem, you just need caliper spacers/adapters, something along these lines (courtesy of 205freak):

i need a pair or more too, so i'll be looking in getting some made, but whoever get's there first...

Yes exactly what I mean - spacers that compensate for the 7mm offset and moves the calibers 10mm outwards. Was hoping for an ebay link or something, or maybe a sketch with dimensions, to build them from.

want to move them abit downwards to make room for a bracket, but before I did it the hard way - I just wanted to ask the expert panel first. No reason to re-invent the wheel hehe

hi sorry to butt in. So do the brembo calipers fit straight onto the 1.9 hubs without any mods like brackets??

Best regards David.

If someone gives me the dimensions I could get a whole load of them laser cut through work. Should be able to get them pretty cheap and very accurate.

Do they fit behind 15" speedlines if so with or wihout spacers?

...its ok to butt in - they do fit directly IF you opt for the 283x26mm discs.

Allthough the brembo´s use 28mm wide discs, it would be a good idea to make some spacers to sit behind the brakepads. For some brands of calibers, one can get a spacer / cup to insert in the brake cylinders

not sure if speedlines fit over, but I could perhaps do a check - they do stick out pretty wide thouh...

If you plan to space them 10mm outwards you'll really need wheelspacers whatever wheel you use.

surely you don't want to double your unsprung weight? 283mm discs weigh a ton!

As requested - speedlines do fit - but only if you MINIMUM add a 16mm spacer!

In regards to Unsprung weight...

Currently I am using 283x26 with Ferodo DS2500, but racing with 235/610-17" soft race-slicks, they cant keep up anymore.

I dont really have a choice - so now I am upgrading to 4pots + 305x28mm discs! funny enough as the brembos are aluminum, the unsprung weight is even reduced a bit going this route.

btw When I wrote moving the calipers outwards, I should have written "forward" (to gasp the large diameter brakediscs)

the calipers may weigh less, but the discs weigh a ton! unless you go for alloy bells.

I run 406 Brembos on my race only 205, along with 283x26 discs. As stated, you need a spacer to make the wheels fit. I have a variety of spacers depending on which wheels I fit. The 307 15x6 steelies have heaps of clearance! Ideally, you need a wheel with minimum offset. The best wheel is the 15 x6.75 Motorsport Wheel, (SL434). The extra mass is not an issue for me. They pull up extremely well.

I also modified the cross over pipe to gain some additional clearance.

I Petert - if I remember correctly - u had cut and welded the original fuel tank? I want to do the same, but was wondering what kind of plastic is it made from: PP, PE PVC, PET, ABS?

thx in advance.

I'm not sure. I took it to a pro. You may find this chart helpful however. I find it very accurate in identifying plastics.

I agree but allways nice with some figures:

247mm calipers 2,8kg

247 discs 4,3kg

total 7,1kg

283x26 calipers 5,6kg

283x26 discs 7kg

total 12,6kg

brembo 4 pot 3,8kg

305x28discs 7,8kg

total 11,6kg

No discussion - original brakes are a joke on track! So in a sence I will save 1kg of unsprung weight pr wheel ;-)

back to topic - it might seem there is no adapter available - so I will have to make some then..

so let me get this straight as im a little confused...

the 406 brembo calipers are a direct fit if you use the 283x26 discs? but need a 16mm spacer for some wheels to fit?

so am i right in saying you only need the caliper spacer if your going for the 305x28 discs?

either way i take it these are mainly for track use? only reason i ask is i was considering some for my road Mi but think there going to be over powered.

They are total overkill for road use to be honest, but yes they bolts straight onto 1.9/base model hubs with a 283mm (307 hdi iirc?) disc

I will probably get some for my track car soon should i change the master cylinder or will i be ok with the stock one?

sorry, there are multiple answer above

do they fit with 283 disc's behind 205 wheels with NO SPACERS???

Petert do you have any brake squeal on the brembos? I will be using on a track only car so if its only when at low speed that wouldn't bother me aslong as their good on track :)

Spiky- I think they require 16mm spacers on stock speedlines , should be ok with a good hubcentric spacer ?

in that case i wont bother then

waiting to hear if the wilwoods fit with no spacers for 205 1.9 wheel, else i will have to get AP's

Let me know how you get on with the wilwoods, arn't AP's 2k?

Whats wrong with spacing them out 16mm?I'm also looking at the c5 15" wheels does anyone know if they give more/less clearance than speedlines.

wow, loads of replies here :).

i agree that 305x28 setup might be an overkill for a road-going 205 but a track-racer on slicks

simply needs them. they are an amazing upgrade for heavy cars such as 405 T16 as well :).

the problem with 305x28 discs is that they have 0mm height so effectively the caliper has to sit

even more towards the wheel face as well as closer to the rim. on my ex-T16 i needed 20mm

hubcentric spacers (15mm would have been enough though) to clear the 6.5J16 ET19 wheels:

brembo2.jpg

brembo3.jpg

brembo4.jpg

brembo5.jpg

(note that the calipers were test fitted the wrong way round in these pics!)

Cameron & lybker> i've got some GTI-6 hubs and Brembo brakes laying around so i could do

a quick mockup of the adapters required and make a drawing to be laser-cut in stainless steel

(by you Cameron). or lybker can do it if he's got the parts available. or we could trial and error

simply by calculating (guesstimating ;)) the dimension, like lybker had roughly done initially :).

i actually have an idea how to sort out the offset issue too, but one would still need caliper adapters

plus machining of the discs.

cheers.
