hi all, i have a problem with my mi16 starting, got spark got fuel.

turns over fine and got it to fire up once but as soon as i applied throttle to keep it running it cut out(maybe gave it to much air)

AFM mounted the right way around? Schoolboy error known to happen.

has been running before i change the head gasket :)

i changed most parts while head was off the cam belt seems fine as i have had it start briefly and turned it over by hand a few revolutions and timing looked spot on.

i think its purely down to the ignition side of things, but am not sure of how to go about sorting this out

It is on the thermostat housing. blue plug, screws into the block. should have a blue plug on it anyways! (make sure you dont have the black plug on it which is meant for the SAD from the 8v!)

check you're ECT using the PDF attached. As DCC said it's Blue and uses the blue plug

so would this sensor effect the starting of the car or the running??

Won't start if not connected - will fire a bit then drown in fuel (not just flood  )

On Jetronic 8v management this sensor would do that, but on 16v Motronic the car will still start and run, and put the engine management light on.

Double check you do not have an air leak, I had the same symptoms and I had not put the pipe on the throttle body correctly

My Mi ran even when the ECU temp sensor was buggered but was severely overfuelling, failed the emissions test in style anyway! But i cant see how it would stop it starting, surely if you read the error codes off the ECU it will come up?

its one r1 bike carbs,

Talk about missing out a vital piece of information in your description of the problem. Ignore the blue sender it has f*** all to do with this now.

opps my bad  , thought i did mention it as i do in most of my post, so if this blue sensor is not needed then what else could be the cause of my car not firing, just to make people aware the car is as standard engine wise apart from being on yamaha r1 bike carbs and 8v loom/dizzy convertor

Yeah, kinda missed a trick there, sorry bout that. Just wondered, what condition is the ignition amp in? and is it a dreaded intermotor part? They are pretty sensitive things, a bit of water, or a lack of thermal paste on the back can stop an Mi starting.

i have checked the wiring to the ignition amp and all seems well, where and why does the ignition amp require thermal paste as i have not known about doing this before on previous cars(non peugeot), sorry if a daft question new to the mi16 world

Its to help the transfer heat from the amp. can only compare it to a computer cpu using a heatsink without thermal paste (pointless basically)

You can get it from most computer shops, made a difference on mine anyway. Also i have tried brand new intermotor amps in the past that dont work straight out of the box, whereas a dirty second hand bosch one that was (and still is) fine.
