Gti-6 Ticks Over Lumpy And Sounds Funny

right ive got a 306 gti-6(well two actually) one of them i bought because i wanted to cyclones to put on my one so i can get it off its 17's(dont laugh or call me crazy lol) now i was going to break this other one but its really clean 100%standard and less miles then mine so would be a shame to break it.

it starts ok, well sometimes turns couple times first and it idles but sounds a little lumpy. it makes a funy noise too, not really a knocking so im sure its not the bottom end. the head just sounds a little funny. its kind of a tapping but not the usual pre snapped belt tapper noise. it just doesnt sound right.

could it be a belt tensioner gone? it sounds more like it is from th head tho. then occasionally under revs it makes another funny noise which is hard to describe lol. hydraulic tappet sticking maybe?

the guy i got it off never used to drive it much but said it was always fine then it just started making what he thought was a rattle from a heatshield or something

strange thing is it stil pulls like a train so i cant see it could be anything major???

any suggestions would be much appreaciated

basically jus want know whats wrong with it as want to sell it

if anyones interested iam letting it go cheap as im out of work at the mo and need get some money back from it

Sounds like it could be a failed hydraulic lifter, just one failing doesnt make that much of a difference in terms of power etc but could be enough to cause a slightly lumpy idle.

could a failed lifter do any long term damage if left as if?

i may have just sold it as it is tho... SILLY cheap too

maybe try some engine flush in it try to clrear the sticky lifter?

im going to put some flush in it tomorrow then give it an oil and filter change as it does need it,level is low and is dark. whats wrong with people not taking care of decent cars

then if that dont help ive got bottle of stuff thats ment for sticky lifters you just add it to the oil,not sure if will help tho

the car is for sale either way, and cheap if anyone interested,il be putting up a forsale tomorrow more then likely
