Automatic Rear Beam

Recommended Posts

Guest sol20516

Hi,

Just taken my rear beam apart to discover it’s not worth refurbishment (serious corrosion in beam tube and trailing arm shafts).

I can get hold of a beam from a 1.6 automatic and was wondering if it would be compatible with my 1.6 GTI? Are there any differences between the two?

Thank you very much for any help.

You should be able to mix and match. Keep the GTI Torsion bars, use the good beam tube and arms.

if you need another beam at all, I have one from a 1.9 up for grabs?

The 205 automatic beam will at most be the same as the XS with 18.5mm torsion bars & a 16mm arb& have different rear brakes (bendix not girling).

Like Jimi said though you can swap you GTi bits over.

Graham.

Thank you very much for your replies.

Ill try changing the auto beam to GTI spec then.

Also where is the best place to get new bearings and seals for the beam? I have seen a refurb kit on eBay but it costs £77+p&p.They are genuine Peugeot parts but is seems a bit dear.

The 205 Gentry automatic and the 1.6GTi are the same rear beam and driveshafts, but the standard 1.6 automatic isn't.

Just confirming your thoughts ;)

You'd could contact Miles on this forum for these parts and see if there's a few pence off for forum members.

You might as well get them direct from your local Peugeot dealer, saves on postage etc but thats about the cost of the bits you need to do a refurb excluding the radius arm shafts if you need them.

All the part numbers are in a topic here.

Graham.
